Turkey’s telecommunication company gets license of 3G
September 7, 2007 – 7:33 pmTurkish telecommunication company Turkcell got the license of the Third Generation Mobile Communication System (3G) by offering 321 million euro, the semi- official Anatolia news agency reported on Friday.
During the tender held at the Telecommunication Authority in the Turkish capital of Ankara, Turkcell raised its bid from 10 million euro to 321 million euro upon the demand of the tender commission.
Turkcell is the only GSM operator bidding for license of 3G.
Since there was no other bids in the tender, the tenders for other licenses were cancelled.
“3G” refers to the third generation of mobile phone standards and technology, after “2G”. Its networks are wide area cellular telephone networks which evolved to incorporate high-speed internet access and video telephony.
